Our International Women's Day Stories: Meet Heidi Thompson, Co-Founder & Creative Director of CARAT* London.

To celebrate International Women's Day, we spoke with five women who inspire us, talking all things careers, and style.

In this week's edition, we caught up with Heidi Thompson, Co-Founder and Creative Director of CARAT* London.

Juggling between motherhood and her creative role at CARAT* London, Heidi takes us into her childhood dream job, her love for jewellery and what she will be passing onto her 2 daughters.

Who do you consider the most inspirational woman/women in your life?

The most inspirational woman for me is my 91 year old grandmother who has raised 6 kids, lived through multiple wars, overcome severe illnesses with sheer mental and physical strength and has the most loving heart. She also has the most vivid memory of anyone I know!

Someone you look up to in business?

Recently, I’m most inspired by women entrepreneurs who have had to overcome big struggles either in their work or personal life in the pursuit of achieving their goals. One example that comes to mind is Rosie O’Neill, who is the co-founder of a candy brand called Sugarfina. Her story is super inspiring!

Who will you be celebrating on International Women's Day?

I will be celebrating all women who have worked hard to make their voices heard and have made a difference, especially working mums!

What was your dream career growing up?

When I was young I dreamed of going to Central St Martins and becoming a fashion designer.

Do you believe in the saying ' Dress for the job you want?'

Yes definitely! Fake it ‘till you make it :) I always feel better when I like what I’m wearing. There’s nothing like an outfit that gives you the ultimate confidence boost.

Your go-to jewellery piece for a business meeting / job interview?

My go-to pieces are a pair of earrings, a pendant necklace and a stack of my favourite dainty rings. I would probably choose my jewellery first and my outfit second.

One piece of jewellery you never leave the house without?

I never leave the house without my fancy yellow CARAT* baby cocktail ring.

Your first piece of jewellery was...

A tiny 24K gold ring from my grandmother on my father’s side. It’s a Korean tradition to gift babies a gold ring on their first birthday.

One piece of jewellery you will be passing on to your daughter?

I have a feeling my daughters will be stealing my jewellery at some point so I’m prepared for that... they are already asking to "borrow" my pieces!

Your favourite CARAT* London piece?

I have a soft spot for all the collections as I remember them all from the first stages of drawings. But at the moment, I would have to choose the A-Lister ear jacket from the Chelsea collection. It effortlessly dresses up any outfit, and just fun to wear!
